Upper Siang achieves 100% target in MR mop-up vaccination drive
YINGKIONG, Oct 19: Upper Siang district has achieved 100 per cent of its target under the six-day Measles-Rubella (MR) mop-up vaccination campaign conducted from October 12 to 17.
The campaign was conducted under the supervision of the District Medical Officer and District Immunization Officer, covering all seven block health facilities at Yingkiong, Tuting, Jengging, Geku, Mariyang, Jeying and Katan.
Health teams comprising medical officers, auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and supporting staff visited villages and schools across their respective jurisdictions to ensure that no eligible child was left out of the vaccination drive. All blocks achieved their assigned targets, the Health Department said.
The MR vaccine protects children against measles and rubella, which can cause serious complications. Rubella infection during pregnancy can also lead to congenital defects, including hearing and vision impairments.
The Health Department expressed gratitude to the block medical officers, healthcare workers, Education Department and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the successful completion of the campaign. (Source: EoA)
