Bini Palen, and Executive Engineer, Naharlagun Highway Division, PWD, Er. Hage Tajang, at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on 6th October 2026.

The Governor said that to promote planned urban development and improve the quality of life in the Capital Region, focus must be on sustainable commitment, efficient execution, and close coordination among all stakeholder agencies. He said that smart urban development goes beyond the creation of modern infrastructure and must focus on building a city that is clean, efficient, environmentally sustainable, and citizen-centric.

Highlighting the significance of Itanagar as the State capital, the Governor said that the city should evolve into a model urban centre that reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s growth, cultural heritage, and developmental aspirations. Every civic initiative, whether related to roads, sanitation, drainage, traffic management, public amenities, or urban beautification, must ultimately enhance the daily lives of residents and create a more livable urban environment.

The Governor emphasized that the Hollongi–Itanagar Highway, the gateway to the State Capital, must be maintained in a clean, safe, and presentable condition at all times. He asked the Highway Division to ensure timely repairs, regular upkeep, and effective maintenance of the road infrastructure, while the Itanagar Municipal Corporation extends necessary support in maintaining cleanliness and civic amenities along the corridor. He further stressed the need for continuous maintenance by the contractors employed under the ‘Risk and Cost’ clause.

Appreciating the efforts of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, the Governor commended the municipal administration for its initiatives in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation. A clean city, he said, contributes significantly to public health, civic pride, and the overall image of the capital. He encouraged the Corporation to continue promoting public awareness and community participation so that cleanliness becomes a collective responsibility.

The meeting also focused on the condition of highways and major roads in and around the Capital Region. Expressing concern over certain stretches requiring attention, the Governor underscored the importance of regular maintenance and timely repairs. Reliable road infrastructure, he said, is fundamental to urban growth, economic activity, and public safety, ensuring seamless movement of people and goods.

The Governor advised the concerned departments to adopt a proactive approach towards infrastructure upkeep and to prioritize quality, durability, and effective monitoring of ongoing projects. Well-maintained highways not only improve connectivity but also support tourism, commerce, and emergency services, thereby contributing to the overall development of the State. (PRO to Governor)
