ITANAGAR, Aug 15: The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with pride and patriotic fervour at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on 15th August 2026. The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), hoisted the Tricolour, and received the Guard of Honour presented by the Echo Company of the 33rd Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, attached to Lok Bhavan.

In his address, the Governor said that Independence Day as a sacred reminder of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters, whose courage, determination and selfless service secured the nation’s liberty. He urged the people to honour the legacy of national heroes and Arunachal Pradesh’s freedom fighters, whose patriotism continues to inspire the values of democracy, justice, equality, unity and service to the nation.

Highlighting the significance of the year, the Governor said that the country is celebrating the eight decades of Independence and also the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. He said the immortal song inspired generations during the freedom movement and remains a symbol of patriotism, national pride and collective destiny.

The Governor also highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s remarkable progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, tourism, agriculture, horticulture, hydropower and skill development. He said that initiatives for youth, women, farmers and self-help groups, along with focused development of border villages, are creating new opportunities and strengthening self-reliance.

Referring to developments at Lok Bhavan, the Governor highlighted administrative reforms, promotion of sports and fitness, organic farming initiatives, and efforts under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to expose schoolchildren to India’s rich cultural heritage. He urged all citizens to contribute towards a prosperous, peaceful and self-reliant nation, guided by unity in diversity and devotion to the motherland.

The celebration featured a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram by the students of Rajiv Gandhi University, filling the atmosphere with patriotism and reverence for the nation. Ms. Gollo Aniya from Let’s Speak Arunachal delivered an inspiring address on the significance of Independence Day, encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to uphold the values of unity, service, and national responsibility.

The programme also included the prize distribution ceremony for the Independence Day Lok Bhavan Games and Sports Competition, recognizing the enthusiasm, teamwork, and sporting spirit displayed by the participants. Referees and organizers were felicitated for their dedication and invaluable contribution to the successful conduct of the event.

On the occasion, a special citation was presented to Ms. Geyir Ete in recognition of her outstanding contribution to public communication and her exemplary service in anchoring and conducting important State functions with professionalism, confidence, and commitment.

As part of his ongoing commitment and effort to promote sincerity and dedication amongst the officials of the Lok Bhavan, the Governor presented Best Employee Award to Shri Sipiyang Pangkam, Shri Gopal Darnal, Shri Gulam Mustapa and Shri Abhijeet Roy.

The Governor and the First Lady of the State, Smt. Anagha Parnaik distributed sweets to the participating school children and officials on the joyous occasion.

Officers and staff of Lok Bhavan, along with department officials attached to Lok Bhavan, as well as students and teachers from the Government and Private Schools, participated in the celebration. (PRO to Governor)
