ITANAGAR: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd.), accompanied by the local MLA, Shri Tseten Chombay, visited the revered Sang-ngag Choekhor Dargyeling Monastery, popularly known as Chilipam Monastery, on 26th July 2026 and paid obeisance at the sacred Buddhist shrine. A special prayer ceremony was conducted at the monastery for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of all humanity. reflected the timeless Buddhist message of universal brotherhood, collective well-being, and peaceful coexistence among all communities, the Monks offered sacred prayers and blessings, invoking harmony, compassion, and spiritual strength.

The Governor lauded the monastery for its invaluable contribution to preserving and promoting the rich Buddhist traditions, spiritual values, and cultural heritage of the region. He observed that monasteries such as Chilipam are far more than places of worship. They are living institutions that nurture moral values, foster compassion, and serve as repositories of ancient wisdom that continue to guide society towards peace, harmony, and mutual respect.

Drawing from his extensive service in Buddhist regions stretching from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, including Bhutan, the Governor noted the profound influence of Buddhist institutions in strengthening social cohesion and promoting a culture of tolerance and understanding. Its distinctive architecture, sacred relics, vibrant monastic traditions, and serene surroundings attract devotees, pilgrims, scholars, and tourists from across India and abroad. Such heritage sites, he said, play an important role in promoting cultural tourism while deepening appreciation for the State’s diverse and enduring traditions.

The Governor also interacted with the revered spiritual leader and Abbot of the monastery, Rimpoche Trulku Tenzin Jigme, who briefed him on the monastery’s initiatives in imparting spiritual education, preserving Buddhist teachings, and guiding young people towards a life rooted in discipline, compassion, and ethical values. The Governor appreciated these efforts and emphasized the importance of involving youth in preserving the State’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy.

Commissioner to Governor, Shri Pawan Kumar Sain, West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr. Dilip Kumar Chetia and SP Shri DW Thungon along with host to Sherdukpen community leaders also accompanied the Governor during his maiden visit to the monastery.
