Tawang, Oct 16: The five-day barista training programme titled "A Beans to Brew Journey - From Origin to a Perfect Cup" concluded successfully today at the District Industries Centre, Tawang. Organised from October 12 to 16, 2026, the programme was initiated by the Coffee Board of India, Coffee Quality Division, in collaboration with Mezang Academy of Culinary Arts and Baking Science, Itanagar, and the Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The intensive training programme aimed to equip local youth with professional skills in coffee preparation and barista techniques, opening up new avenues for employment, entrepreneurship and livelihood generation in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

During the five-day programme, participants received practical training in coffee preparation, espresso fundamentals, milk steaming, latte art, various brewing methods, sensory evaluation and coffee cupping. The hands-on sessions were designed to help participants develop the technical knowledge and professional competence required to pursue careers as skilled baristas or establish their own cafés and coffee-related enterprises.

Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, IAS, graced the concluding day of the programme and interacted with the young beneficiaries. She appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the efforts of the organising institutions in bringing valuable skill development opportunities to the district. She also expressed gratitude to the organisers for equipping local youth with practical, industry-oriented skills that can contribute to their economic empowerment and self-reliance.

The Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, extended vital support by providing the venue for the training programme, facilitating its successful conduct.

With Tawang steadily emerging as an attractive tourism destination, such specialised skill development initiatives hold significant potential to strengthen the local hospitality sector. Professionally trained local baristas can enhance the overall experience of visitors while creating new employment opportunities and encouraging young entrepreneurs to establish cafés and coffee businesses within the district.

The programme reflects the importance of collaborative efforts between government departments, specialised training institutions and industry bodies in bridging skill gaps and preparing local youth for emerging livelihood opportunities.

The successful completion of the programme marks another positive step towards nurturing a skilled, confident and self-reliant generation of young people in Tawang.
