Tawang, Aug 19: The Electoral Roll Observer for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Tawang District, Yeshi Wangmu (Y.W.) Ringu, IAS, Commissioner (Finance), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, reviewed the ongoing SIR process in the district this afternoon.

The review meeting was attended by MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering, MLA Lungla  Tsering Lhamu, ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu, ZPM Tawang Sonam Nordzin, ZPM Kyidphel Tenzin Monpa and ZPM Mogto Pema Tsering, besides District Presidents/representatives of BJP, PPA and AAP, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other officials associated with the revision exercise.

The meeting began with a detailed presentation on the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision across the district. The Electoral Roll Observer was apprised of the status of the revision exercise, including details of claims and objections received so far in all three Assembly Constituencies of Tawang District.

During the review, the roll Observer sought constituency-wise information on additions and deletions, the number of hearings being conducted on a daily basis, and the progress made by the respective EROs and AEROs in disposal of claims and objections. She also sought details regarding constituencies recording the highest number of additions and deletions.

During the open discussion, representatives of various political parties shared their observations and views on the ongoing SIR process. MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering suggested that minor or negligible discrepancies in names and other particulars appearing in the electoral roll may, wherever permissible under the prescribed rules and provisions, be considered by the concerned EROs/AEROs after due satisfaction and verification.

Addressing the officials, the Electoral Roll Observer expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their continued support, cooperation and dedicated efforts in carrying out the intensive revision exercise at the grassroots level. She directed the BLOs to ensure that all pending forms, if any, are uploaded without delay.

She further instructed the concerned officers to fix hearings immediately upon receipt of claims and objections, so that applicants and aggrieved persons are informed in time and get adequate opportunity to prepare and produce the required documents during the hearing.

Emphasising strict adherence to the prescribed procedures, the roll Observer directed the election officials to properly preserve all documents and records connected with the revision process and to follow the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India in letter and spirit.

“Go by the rules and follow the instructions issued by the Election Commission. If there is any doubt, seek clarification from your superiors or experienced officials. We have to work according to the laid-down rules,” she emphasised.

She also stressed the importance of factual and accurate reporting at every stage of the Special Intensive Revision and asked officials to maintain transparency, proper documentation and due diligence throughout the exercise.

The Electoral Roll Observer reiterated that the revision process must be carried out carefully and strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines to ensure a clean, accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral roll.

The review meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of the election machinery, elected representatives, political parties and other stakeholders towards safeguarding the integrity of the electoral roll and ensuring that every eligible citizen gets due opportunity for enrolment in accordance with the prescribed rules and procedures, thereby strengthening the democratic process.
