Yupia, Sep 29: The District Road Safety Council, Papum Pare, held a meeting at the DC Conference Hall, Yupia, today to review road safety measures and intensify awareness on the “Rah-Veer” scheme.

Representatives from the Administration, Police, Medical, IPR, Education Department, PHED, PWD and, along with other key stakeholders, attended the meeting and discussed coordinated measures to strengthen awareness about the scheme across the district.

Chairing the meeting, ADC Tame Yajum called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to create wider awareness about the Rah-Veer scheme and encourage the public to assist road accident victims during the critical golden hour.

DMO Dr. Reena Ronya, through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighted the crucial role of the medical department in saving the lives of road accident victims and the importance of Rah-Veers in providing timely assistance before professional medical help arrives.

She informed that individuals certified by the medical department as Rah-Veers for saving the life of a critically injured person involved in a motor vehicle accident are eligible to receive a reward of ₹25,000 under the scheme.

To intensify awareness, Dr. Ronya proposed placing Rah-Veer posters near emergency wards of health facilities and directing Medical Officers to sensitise patients and attendants about the scheme. She also suggested displaying awareness posters on public transport vehicles.

DySP Phassang Simi suggested taking the Rah-Veer message to social gatherings and places of worship to reach a wider section of the community.

District Transport Officer Padang Sangyu proposed presenting Rah-Veer awards during special occasions and public events to utilise large gatherings for wider dissemination of the scheme. (DIPRO)
