Mahotsava Festival…….an innermost and
outburst of the merry time for the human race since time immemorial the
word festival itself is full of energy and with the religious tone of
Buddhism….
...........The Buddha Mahotsava-2006 is going
is the Dream come True event for the people of Lohit district. The
Buddha Mahotsava is celebrated in Arunachal Pradesh since last five
years.
....For three years, it was celebrated at Tawang while last year it was celebrated at Dirang in West Kameng district. This is for the first time the festival is being celebrated in Lohit district. The people are geared up to make the celebration a grand success. and spiritual aspects of Buddhism blended with this festival teach us the right way of living. | |||

....the 6th Buddha Mahotsava celebrated at Chongkham from March 13 to 15 last has evoked much desired enthusiasm for the high potential tourism sector of the state. The exchange programme announced by Thai Ambassador in India, Chirasak Thanesnant in the fields of tourism, trade, culture and science has opened a new chapter for the high potential tourism sector. | ||

The festival reflected Lord Buddha’s preaching of non-violence, peace and compassion in all events, starting from traditional pujas to world peace prayer by floating thousands of illuminating lamps in Berang river near Peace Pagoda, offering of alms to monks, including monks from Thailand and a Bhava Chakra or the wheel of life traditionally known as Khukwung and the apparel show with five colours—blue, white, red, green, and yellow—of Buddhism as the theme. | |||

The cultural fusion during the cultural events showcased the ethno-diversity of the innumerable tribes of state, particularly the social fabric of Tai-Khampti, followers of Theravada Buddhism of Lohit district, while other programmes highlighted the unique lifestyle of the people of the area and the state. The echo-spiritual-cultural mega event concluded successfully giving enough opportunities to over 1.50 lakh people from all walks of life, including tourists form neighbouring states, apart from foreign tourists who thronged Arunachal Pali Vidyapeeth, the venue, to explore Lohit and Arunachal Pradesh.

As many as 2,300 patients benefited from a free medical camp organized at the venue by 82 Mountain Brigade under 15 Maratha Light infantry Regiment of Indian Army. Six of its doctors and a doctor from district administration conducted the camp, which witnessed long queues of people to avail treatment and free medicines.
Local legislator, C T Mein flagged off the Pangsau Pass Expedition, 2006 in which the participants wheeled down to Nampong in Changlang district in 10 vehicles.

Besides regular traditional folk dances and games & sports, other programmes included exhibitions, particularly local art and crafts, painting by a handicapped, bhaona, balloon show, presentation by Bharat Natyam exponent Rasika Khanna Mohan, orchestra by noted artists and a echo run (mini marathon) which concluded with a camp fire on March 15 evening, reverberating eco-tourism as the main mantra to boost Arunachal tourism as suggested by Raj Basu, member of eco-tourism committee, Govt. of India, who has been working in Lohit Valley for over two decades. |
